GEA said it has received orders for 20 of its new marine separators, which were introduced at SMM in Hamburg.
The new GEA marine separator is designed for board cruise ships, container ships and tankers. The first orders are for two cruise ships. GEA said that new separators offer extended service intervals–only after a service interval of 16 000 operating hours the Modular exchange drive unit has to be replaced. The company said the separator offers more than 96% and a savings potential of up to 30 000 kWh per year. The direct drive with its synchronous motor requires no belt or clutch. Spindle and motor are available for the first time as modular exchange drive units, the company said. This simplifies installation and maintenance of the machine immensely, according to GEA. The separator is accessible from all sides and the space requirement on board is reduced by 50%.
