MAN Diesel & Turbo was selected to deliver two 18V32/40 engines to drive a captive power plant at the Al-Watania Poultry chicken farm in Saudi Arabia, in the Qassim district, not far from the capital, Riad.
The engines will run on crude oil as a main fuel and use diesel oil during startup. MAN’s scope also includes all mechanical equipment for three gen-sets. Germany-based Alfred Kuhse GmbH, specialized in control technology solutions, takes on the EPC-role for this project.
The Al Watania Poultry is considered to be the biggest chicken farm in the MENA region and produces 575 000 chickens and one million table eggs per day and also operates a mill and a fertilizer plant. Sufficient electrical power is provided by 14 power plants with a combined capacity of 95.7 MW. The new MAN engines are part of the company’s plans to more than double the overall installed power generation capacity on site within the next five years.
“Due to our strong foothold and long history in this region, MAN offers extensive expertise in captive power generation and we highly welcome our customers to make use of that”, said Ashraf Al Natsheh , senior sales director Power Plants in Saudi Arabia for MAN Diesel & Turbo.
